Alert: Phishing Email Impersonating ALTA

February 6, 2026

ALTA is warning members about a phishing email circulating with the subject line “Your ALTA Membership.” The fraudulent message appears to come from ALTA, but the sender’s email address is not associated with ALTA. The email attempts to spur urgency indicating the recipient’s membership payment is outstanding.

Do not open attachments, click links or respond to the email. Members should delete the message immediately and notify their IT department to block the sending domain or IP address.

ALTA will never request:

  • Login credentials
  • Credit card information payments by phone or email.

If you are unsure whether a communication is legitimate, end the interaction and contact ALTA directly at 800-787-2582 or [email protected] for confirmation.

Tips to Protect Yourself

Phishing attempts are increasingly sophisticated. ALTA encourages members to slow down and verify before acting:

  • Carefully review email headers to confirm messages are coming from a trusted sender. When in doubt, verify the request through a known, separate contact method.
  • Hover over links to see the true destination before clicking—even if the link appears legitimate. Malicious URLs can be hidden beneath familiar text.
What to Do If You Clicked or Responded

If you believe you may have interacted with the phishing email:

  • Contact your credit card company using the phone number on the back of your card or the issuer’s official website.
  • Review recent transactions and report any suspected fraud.
  • Cancel and replace affected cards.
  • Consider freezing your credit if non-public personal information was provided.
  • Notify your IT department immediately.
  • Run a virus or security scan on your device.
  • Change passwords for any accounts that may have been compromised, especially those stored for convenience.
