Hawaii Joins States Protecting Homebuyers from Predatory Contracts

Hawaii joined 30 other states that have passed ALTA-supported legislation that includes provisions protecting homeowners from the predatory practice of filing unfair real estate fee agreements in property records, known as Non-Title Recorded Agreements for Personal Services (NTRAPS).
Proposed Revisions to ALTA’s Best Practices in Public Comment Period

The proposed revisions have been made with the objective of allowing agents and direct operations to continue to optimize their practices and procedures to ensure financial safety, data security and operational stability, and to provide lenders with the assurances that their needs are being fulfilled by improved operations. The proposed changes are now in a public comment period until Aug. 12.
