Ten years ago, few analysts predicted the housing crisis that we’ve just experienced. That said, I foresee the real estate industry enjoying a period of sustainable growth over the next decade. Economists continue to confirm a decrease in short sales and foreclosures. It will take time for states with complex foreclosure proceedings to work through properties; distressed property volume, however, will decrease sharply. This will support a resurgence in the home purchase market as new construction increases because of strengthened prices and low supply. The real estate and lending communities are going to spend the next decade focused on regulatory compliance and responsible lending; both of which will aid in steady and sustainable growth.
