ALTA Staff Elected to PRIA, PREP Positions

Kelly Romeo, vice president at ALTA, was elected to the Board of Directors of the Property Records Industry Association (PRIA), which develops and promotes national standards and best practices for the property records industry.

Romeo, who joined five others who were elected to two-year terms, was elected as a director in the business category. Others elected to serve two-year terms on PRIA’s board include:

  • Annette Hill, assistant commissioner/city register, New York City Department of Finance, N.Y.; and Diane Swoboda Peterson, real estate/recorder deputy, Woodbury Co., Iowa; were elected directors in the recorder category. This is Hill’s first term on the Board of Directors.
  • Ann Richards, director of sales and marketing, Pioneer Technology Group; along with Romeo; were elected directors in the business category. Both have served previous terms on the Board of Directors.
  • Jerry Lewallen, president, eRecording Partners Network; and Nancy Sotomayor, deputy of recording, Douglas Co., Colo.; were re-elected for two-year terms as directors at-large.

Directors continuing for the second year of a two-year term include, Larry Burtness, recorder, Washoe County, Nev.; Val Wood, chief deputy recorder/clerk, San Diego Co., Calif.; and Chris Walker, clerk, Jackson Co., Ore., representing government recorders.

Charlie Epperson, chief technology officer, SigniaDocs/MRN Cubed; Karl Klessig, CEO, The Extant Group; and Zachary Zaharek, senior corporate counsel, Data Trace; continue into their second year representing the business sector.

Mark Ladd, vice president of regulatory and industry affairs for Simplifile, will continue on the board for 2016-17 as a director at-large.

The new board convened Aug. 24 to elect officers for one-year terms. Ladd was re-elected president, Burtness will continue as vice president, Swoboda Peterson will serve as secretary and Zaharek was elected to serve as treasurer.

Meanwhile, Ben Lincoln, ALTA’s director government affairs, was elected as the new business co-chair for Property Records Education Partners (PREP), which provides a local structured forum for stakeholders of the property records industry.
