Louisiana Land Title Association Celebrates 50th Anniversary--ALTA® Board Members and Staff Attend

December 12, 2006

Last week ALTA Board members Anne Anastasi (PA), Mike Pryor (AR) and Chief Counsel Ed Miller attended the Louisiana Land Title Association's 50th annual convention in New Orleans. Outgoing LALTA President Melvin Maxwell presented a check for $3,000 on behalf of the association to ALTA's public awareness program. Click the headline to read more.

Subjects addressed over the three-day convention included mortgage fraud, 1031 exchanges, and the new ALTA forms.

Anastasi addressed the group of more than 350 attendees on the latest issues affecting the title industry nationally, including the ongoing Government Accountability Office study, and recent actions by California, New York and Florida concerning rates. Miller updated the audience on recent changes in the U.S. Congress and how new legislative leaders may treat the title insurance industry.

New Orleans is still suffering from the devastation caused by hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Dr. Loren Scott, a LA economist, discussed the economic outlook. There are over 248,000 homes that are still uninhabitable in New Orleans. Businesses are unable to reopen due to a lack of employees, who are not returning as there is no housing available to them. Government has been slow to implement housing programs, and many who fled the city may never return.
