Stewart Acquires Cuesta Title in Tulare and Kings Counties, Calif.

March 1, 2004

Stewart Title of California has acquired the remaining 20 percent interest in the Cuesta Title offices in Tulare and Kings counties in central California. Terms of the acquisition were not released.

Existing key management and staff will remain, including former owner and President Scott Collins, who will become a division president for Stewart Title of California. There are 43 employees in the three offices, which have been renamed Stewart Title.

"Stewart Title has been Cuesta Title's primary underwriter for many years, and has held an ownership position in the company since 2001," said Collins. "Stewart has the outstanding reputation, the financial strength and the national coverage that will allow our office to strengthen our tradition of service to our longtime customers."

Stewart had purchased an 80 percent interest in Cuesta Title Co. in March 2001.

"Cuesta Title has been an integral part of the real estate community in the mid-state area since 1998," said Allan Wasserman, president, Stewart Title of California. "Stewart Title is proud to be part of that rich heritage, and we are pleased to have the talented Cuesta Title staff as part of the Stewart family."
