GMAC Real Estate Chairman to 'take a breather,' then act as consultant

GMAC Homes Services announced that GMAC Real Estate Chairman Tom Koenig will vacate his position with that company.

Koenig's Chicago-based Koenig & Strey was family owned until three years ago, when the real estate brokerage company was sold to GMAC Real Estate. Koenig since then has been responsible for integrating the brokerage into GMAC Real Estate's operations.

Koenig may be stepping down, but he apparently has no intention of slowing down.

"My grandmother lived to be 100 and my father is still going strong at 80 years of age working every day at Koenig & Strey GMAC Real Estate. My plans are to keep moving forward for a long, long time," he said.

Koenig is planning to do some traveling in the coming months, then work as a consultant to GMAC Real Estate and its CEO John Bearden, according to a statement from the company.

Koenig & Strey GMAC Real Estate has 13 offices and 750 sales associates, who handled nearly $3 billion in sales last year, according to the company. GMAC Real Estate has more than 1,300 offices and 20,000 sales associates in North America and is one of three operating companies that comprise GMAC Home Services.

The company has no plans to name a successor in the position Koenig is leaving.
