600 lost golf balls get a mulligan with 6-foot statue

ALTA, Ia. – An Iowa man used 600 golf balls to make a 6-foot-tall statue of a golfer swinging a club.

Kevin Pingel's creation in Alta is an expression of his love for golf.

Pingel said he decided to create the statue after collecting hundreds of lost golf balls while mowing the three holes closest to his house, which is adjacent to the course.

Pingel said he drilled holes in the golf balls and slid them onto stainless steel rods. He then bent the rods to form the shape of the golfer and welded the pieces together.

Pingel began the project last November and completed the 100-pound statue in May.
