Fannie Mae Creates Interactive Video to Help Homeowners Avoid Foreclosure
|September 18, 2012
Fannie Mae has created an interactive video to educate homeowners about their options to avoid foreclosure, motivate them to make the right decisions and encourage them to get help.
The WaysHome video is set in a neighborhood that has been hurt by the foreclosure crisis. Real actors play three residents of the neighborhood—each in financial distress. Homeowners select to play one of the residents and, as their stories unfold, make important financial decisions for them and see how the consequences of these decisions play out.
WaysHome is part of Fannie Mae’s Know Your Options consumer initiative to help struggling homeowners.
A brief questionnaire at the beginning of the video directs homeowners to the character and story that most resembles their situation—and they face many different situations as they play their characters and are given choices on how to proceed. Most choices lead to an immediate consequence followed by a related teaching point.
As the story unfolds, the consequences of their decisions accumulate and can result in negative outcomes, including foreclosure and credit problems. If this happens, homeowners will be prompted to revisit the scenes, revise their choices, and get helpful tips as they navigate to a more successful outcome.
In order to reach homeowners who have not yet reached out for help, ALTA members are encouraged to share the video with their customers. The WaysHome video is a valuable tool to get information to struggling homeowners who are not aware of the options to avoid foreclosure.
The video and information has been added to ALTA’s consumer website, Home Closing 101
. The video is located under the Know Your Options section.
