ALTA’s State Government Affairs Manager Speaks at American Escrow Association Annual Conference

June 14, 2011

Nick Hacker, Manager of State Government Affairs of the American Land Title Association, discussed the need for a collaborative approach as the title insurance, escrow and settlement services industries adjust to legislative and regulatory changes during a keynote presentation at the American Escrow Association (AEA) Annual Conference in Las Vegas.

“The title insurance, escrow and settlement services industries help drive our nation’s economy through the safe and efficient transfer of real property,” Hacker said. “In the current housing market our services are increasingly important for the confidence of lenders to provide loans to creditworthy homebuyers.”

“As the market has significantly changed over the past several years, increased regulatory and legislative pressures have made it more important to work together,” Hacker continued “Having increased its advocacy on Capitol Hill and state houses across the country, ALTA invites the AEA to join in these efforts. The industry faces a host of new complex legislative and regulatory issues that provide unique opportunities for ALTA and AEA to collaborate. The newly proposed combined mortgage disclosure prototypes being developed by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is one these opportunities because these documents affect the businesses of both associations’ members. Our ability to partner will help ensure our voices are heard and help craft a product that is more beneficial to consumers and the industry.”
