Five Questions About Values in the Title Industry

A company’s values are the cornerstone of its culture. They are the basis of how a business functions. They set you apart from the competition, make you unique and are essential to achieving an organization’s goals.
ALTA unveiled the industry’s values in 2017 after listening to members for more than a year to understand the pride they take in their work helping consumers close real estate transactions and protecting property rights. The conversations served as the foundation of the ALTA Our Values and reflect the enduring, memorable and aspirational values of ALTA members.
The values include:
- We Lead: We are the authority in real estate transactions. We innovate for the benefit of our customers.
- We Deliver: Our customers trust us to do the right thing, the right way—before, during and after the transaction. We sweat the small stuff to assure that land transfer is accurate, swift and secure.
- We Protect: We protect the property rights of those we serve. We reduce risk so our customers have peace of mind
We will highlight ALTA member title agency owners to showcase the importance of establishing core values to create a strong culture within their operations. In this article, we talk with Jim Czapiga, president and CEO of The CATIC Family of Companies, who shares why ALTA’s Our Values are important for the industry and his company.
1. How do ALTA’s "Our Values - We Lead, We Deliver, We Protect" reflect the core values of our industry?
ALTA’s values, “We Lead, We Deliver, We Protect” are what our industry gets up each day and tries to accomplish. They are words to live by in uncertain times. Our industry continues to look for ways to lead innovation and improve the efficiencies of the settlement process. We deliver thousands of closed transactions each day and help build generational wealth for families. We also strive to protect all stakeholders in the closing ecosystem from various types of fraud through advanced products, services and timely education.
How would you describe the culture in your office?
CATIC’s culture consistently promotes collaboration, inclusion and innovation in various ways. We strive to create an environment where people want to come to work each day to be part of something great. We also work to build trusting partnerships with each of our stakeholders. We enjoy helping each other, learning from each other and listening to each other in a respectful manner. Demonstrating camaraderie, care and appreciation toward one another is embodied in who we are, which carries over into how we engage with our customers. We believe that our success is a byproduct of cultivating great workplace culture where everyone feels welcome and inspired to emulate our core values daily.

Both our core values and workplace culture are directly shaped by each of our employees. Their willingness to consistently emulate these values, with both internal and external constituents, creates a dynamic and enriching work environment for all of us. Their continuous commitment to cultivating a positive experience for our agents, their teammates and the various communities that we serve is remarkable and helps define who we are as a company. I am very proud of their amazing dedication, camaraderie and unwavering support of our organization because they are directly responsible for making CATIC a great place to work!
How do these values and your culture impact your customers?
At CATIC, we strive to preserve the role of the real estate attorney and independent title agent in the closing process and to exceed the expectations of our agents and other stakeholders. Our core values impact each customer because they help provide a roadmap for how all employees across the organization can support the overall mission of the company in a meaningful way. By consistently applying these key principles to each customer interaction, it helps promote a positive and differentiating customer experience for each of our constituents.
