ALTA Policy Forms Web Links
The American Land Title Association first created its policy forms eight decades ago in order to standardize title insurance coverage across the country. These uniform policy forms have become the gold standard of the industry and have allowed universal acceptance of title insurance written on ALTA policy forms. ALTA continues to improve and adapt the forms to address current marketplace needs.
ALTA requires all title agents (each company or individual who has an agency agreement) and underwriters to have a license to use the ALTA Policy Forms. The Policy Forms License will cover the calendar year and must be renewed each year. There are three ways to comply with the license.
The Occasional Use Waiver is available for those who, during the previous calendar year, wrote title insurance on 50 or fewer transactions. Settlements that included both a loan and owner’s policy would count as a single transaction for the purpose of the waiver. Applications may be found at www.alta.org/waiver.
