Annual Convention

ALTA Habitat House

Over 70 ALTA volunteers got down and dirty (a few additionally covered with tar) and participated in the ALTA Habitat for Humanity Home Build during two days at the ALTA Annual Convention. Participants left the site tired and with a few sore muscles, but with a great feeling of pride and accomplishment as well.

We were fortunate to have Colin Powell visit the site on Saturday, October 13 with a group of ALTA members. There they were able to meet with the families and surprise a group of youth involved in a volunteer day with an opportunity to hear from Colin Powell.

The work on the house will continue over the next several months. Most work is done by volunteers and the family, so it is projected that it will be completed by spring of 2008. It is not too late to get involved in this worthwhile cause. ALTA is accepting contributions through the end of 2007. If you would like to contribute please click on one of the options below. A few interesting facts:

It will take approximately 10 months to complete the ALTA Habitat House.
A large part depends on the family and how they are doing on their sweat equity hours.
The ALTA Habitat House will be a two story house, which is not the norm.

This is a typical Habitat for Humanity home.
