Louisiana Opens Doors to E-recording with Simplifile

August 21, 2014

Simplifile customers can now e-record in Jefferson Parish, the first recording jurisdiction in Louisiana to join Simplifile’s electronic recording network.

“We are very excited to see the state of Louisiana open its doors to e-recording and to provide customers with the ability to submit their documents online in Jefferson Parish,” said Paul Clifford, president of Simplifile. “There are now 44 states that have started e-recording and we are proud to be providing this service to customers in all of those states. Without question, e-recording has become the standard for document recording, streamlining and expediting the recording process for customers and recording offices nationwide.”

E-recording helps speed up the recording process, increases document security, reduces the number of rejected documents, and eliminates payment errors and check-writing expenses, as recording fees are processed securely via electronic funds transfer or Automated Clearing House, according to Simplifile.

The fourth pillar of ALTA’s “Title Insurance and Settlement Company Best Practices” addresses recording procedures to ensure compliance with the settlement process. Implementing a tracking mechanism is helpful in providing a record of what documents were sent, when they were sent and method of delivery. The use of e-recording can aid in the implementation and documentation of procedures.
