ALTA, AARP, NCLC to Discuss Consumer Protection Strategy

Between unfair fee agreements, seller impersonation fraud and other scams, many types of bad actors are attempting to attack the real estate industry. ALTA and our partners at AARP and the National Consumer Law Center (NCLC) are working on the front lines to protect vulnerable homebuyers and sellers.

Join us on Monday, May 6, during ALTA Advocacy Summit in Washington, D.C., as ALTA VP of Government Affairs Elizabeth Blosser sits down with Samar Jha, AARP government affairs director; Nketiah “Ink” Berko, NCLC equal justice works fellow; and Kevin Cameron, ALTA director of federal government affairs, for an informative panel on “Protecting Consumers Beyond the Closing Table.” Hear the experts discuss what they’re doing on the federal and state levels to educate consumers on the latest threats and to protect property rights.

At ALTA, Blosser oversees state legislative efforts, including annually monitoring state bills related to the real estate, mortgage and title industries. After starting his career in political fundraising and later moving to focus on housing policy, Cameron now leads ALTA’s Democratic lobbying efforts on Capitol Hill. Jha guides AARP’s local and state housing advocacy for their 53 state offices, which includes the 50 states, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and American Virgin Islands. At the NCLC, Berko works with legal services programs in the Washington, D.C., area to provide legal advocacy and representation to Black residents at risk of losing family homes because of unclear or encumbered titles.

As title professionals, we have successfully managed change throughout our history. No matter what challenges we face, we remain steadfast in our work to protect property rights. As we continue to proudly advocate for our industry’s critical role, we know one thing is true: Our voices are stronger together. It’s the power of connection—to homebuyers, policymakers, our partners and communities—that makes us successful. Together, we are tenacious. Together, we are powerful. Together, we are the champions of the title industry.

Thank you to our exhibitors, including PropLogix, for their support as well as First American for sponsoring the event app. Join us to walk the halls of Congress at ALTA Advocacy Summit!
