Advocacy Representation

ALTA is constantly in touch with Congress and other stakeholders on legislative and regulatory issues to protect the industry’s and your company’s interests. ALTA is a leader in Washington, DC on issues including the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), real estate finance, mortgage and insurance issues. ALTA also works closely with state land title associations on state issues.

Title Action Network
Join nearly 12,000 land title insurance industry professionals in the Title Action Network (TAN). TAN is a 100% free organization that allows our industry to quickly and easily contact their local and federal lawmakers about issues that affect your business and your bottom line.

Title Industry Political Action Committee (TIPAC)
TIPAC is the collective voice of the title insurance industry and the official PAC of ALTA. TIPAC enables us to build and develop relationships with members of Congress, while educating and advocating on behalf of our industry.

Congressional Liaisons
ALTA’s Congressional Liaisons are individuals that have existing (or would like to cultivate) relationships with members of Congress of their staff. Joining this group of advocates helps ALTA gain greater access to Congress and allows us to better explain the benefits of our industry.

Title Insurance and Settlement Company Best Practices

ALTA created the “Title Insurance and Settlement Company Best Practices” to help members highlight policies and procedures the industry exercises to protect lenders and consumers. Here are some of the Best Practices resources:

  • Best Practices Workbooks: This document consists of a series of questionnaires designed to aid companies in determining whether the policies they have in place meet the Best Practices standards.
  • Assessment Procedures: This is the standard set of evaluation procedures, promulgated by ALTA, to help companies determine whether they meet the Best Practices.
  • Assessment Readiness Guides: This document helps companies self-assess their compliance with each pillar of ALTA’s Best Practices.
  • ALTA Compliance Management Report: This is a high-level report that companies complete to provide the results of a self assessment to lenders or other third parties.
  • Best Practices Policy and Procedure Creation Guidance: Provides members step-by-step directions on how to draft formal policies and procedures for the Best Practices.

Homebuyer Outreach Program

ALTA developed an extensive Homebuyer Outreach Program to bolster member company efforts to educate homebuyers on the benefits of title insurance. Members have exclusive access to more than 60 tools to educate homebuyers, Realtors, builders and lenders about the benefits of owner’s title insurance. Members can brand and print HOP materials with their own company logo and information directly from alta.org. Items available include:

Types of Membership

Active Membership
Active membership is restricted to business entities that primarily engage and are legally qualified to engage in the business of land title evidencing as an abstracter, title insurance agent or title insurance underwriter. Active members may vote in Association elections and hold committee and elected positions.

Associate Membership
This membership is reserved for those people or firms engaged in providing services to the land title industry. Examples of such persons or firms are attorneys, surveyors, automation vendors, counsels to lenders or life insurance companies and governmental agencies.

Emeritus Membership
This class of membership is open to retired members of the title industry, provided that they are not eligible for any other type of membership.
