The Commission appointed by Washington State Insurance Commissioner Mike Kreidler to study the title insurance market in Washington issued its report titled “Title Insurance in Washington: Improving Competition and Consumer Choice” on September 25th. It is a balanced and fair look at the industry that does a good job of explaining the importance and value of title insurance. It offers five recommendations to the Commissioner. They include a more realistic regulation against inducements (Currently $25 per year); Closer regulation of affiliated businesses; better information for consumers; rate regulation; and review of title plant law.
