LandAmerica's Northeast Region Supports Employees Who Volunteer to Build Habitat for Humanity House in Pittsburgh

November 16, 2005

PITTSBURGH, -- Employees of LandAmerica's Northeast Region are volunteering to work with Habitat for Humanity to build a house for a deserving family in Etna, Pennsylvania. The company will provide time off with pay for more than 22 volunteer employees for the time they spend on the construction site during the eight- to 10-week building period.

LandAmerica has been a supporter of local Habitat for Humanity chapters since the mid 1990s. The house being built in Etna is known as the LandAmerica Pittsburgh House and is the company's first collaboration with Habitat in Pennsylvania. Employees across LandAmerica's four business channels, its One Stop(R) subsidiary, and interested agent partners located near Pittsburgh, will participate. They will perform their volunteer work on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays until the home is finished. They will work side-by-side with the eventual owners of the home, who are required to invest a significant amount of their own labor in the house's construction.

It is the intent of the LandAmerica Foundation to schedule two Habitat building projects annually; one in Richmond, Virginia, home of the company's Shared Resource Center, and one in another region.

"Community involvement is an essential part of our company's culture," said Jim Sindoni, Executive Vice President - Northeast Region. "Building homes for those who are less fortunate is a natural fit for us and supports our company's Guiding Principle of Responsible Corporate Citizenship. We encourage our employees to volunteer."
