ALTA created the “Title Insurance and Settlement Company Best Practices” to help members highlight policies and procedures the industry exercises to protect lenders and consumers.

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s TILA-RESPA Integrated Disclosures (TRID) rule significantly changed the closing process. The rule integrated forms required under the Truth-in-Lending Act (TILA) and Real Estate Settlement and Procedures Act (RESPA). ALTA has studied the nuances of the law and is providing feedback to the CFPB on proposed changes.

The national ALTA Registry of title and settlement agents was launched in 2017; it establishes a unique ID for title agency locations, real estate attorneys, and underwriter direct offices. The ALTA Registry will contain basic demographic information—the type of information which appears on a website or a business card and will be updated daily.

TIAC began insuring ALTA members in June of 1988, making TIAC one of the oldest and most experienced insurers for title agents and abstracters E&O insurance.
