Protecting the American Dream Award Presentation to Senator Mark

Warner (D-VA) and Congressman Michael Fitzpatrick (R-PA)

Presenter: American Land Title Association (ALTA) CEO Michelle Korsmo

This award recognizes friends of the title insurance industry who demonstrate leadership on issues of importance to ALTA.

Senator Mark Warner (D-VA) (invited) is a leader on housing issues on the Senate Banking Committee. His work spearheading efforts to find a bipartisan solution with Senator Bob Corker (R-TN) to Government Sponsored Enterprises (GSE) Reform has been at the forefront of issues discussed in the Senate Banking Committee over the last year. Senator Warner included language in his version of GSE reform ensuring title insurance is a pillar of the real estate settlement process. ALTA commends Senator Warner for his efforts and work on GSE reform.

Congressman Michael Fitzpatrick (R-PA) (invited) is a Member of the House Financial Services Committee, specifically the Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit Subcommittee, which has jurisdiction over the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). Routinely, Congressman Fitzpatrick has worked with ALTA during Financial Services Committee hearings to facilitate a thoughtful dialogue with the CFPB. In addition, Congressman Fitzpatrick is a leader in the House of Representatives on GSE reform, and has spoken on behalf of the title insurance industry during legislative markups of Financial Services Chairman Hensarling's version of GSE reform, which is known as the PATH Act.

TIPAC in Action

ALTA's Title Industry Political Action Committee (TIPAC) is the collective voice of the title insurance industry and play a critical role in advocacy on behalf of the industry as the official PAC of the American Land Title Association.

TIPAC is the only political action committee of its kind, organized for the express purpose of representing the title industry on Capitol Hill. TIPAC enables ALTA to develop relationships with members of Congress, while educating and advocating on behalf of the title insurance industry.

Planning Your Congressional Visits

Maximize your Federal Conference experience and meet with your state's congressional delegation on Capitol Hill during ALTA's 2014 Lobby Day. Your legislators and their staff need to know the concerns of their constituents in the title industry, and as their constituent, you are the best person to share your concerns directly with them.

ALTA will schedule meetings with your legislators' offices on Wednesday, May 7. If you do not want ALTA to set up your meetings for you please email Jessica McEwen at

It is possible that your meeting may be confirmed with the staff person that handles the financial services, banking, insurance or real estate industries, but do not be discouraged. Staff members are the key advisors to your Members of Congress who have their ear and are critical to Congress' role on policy issues important to the title industry and your business. In many cases, you will also see your Representative or Senators.

Please keep in mind that you will likely be paired with other ALTA members from your state. Remember to bring plenty of business cards.
