Data Trace Completes Title Plant Conversion For Marin County

June 26, 2002

ANAHEIM, Calif., Data Trace LLC, a provider of title plant services, has successfully converted a title plant in Marin County, Calif., to Data Trace?s national standard for title plant operation.

Using the Data Trace system, member title companies of the joint title plant in Marin now have the convenience of an automated source of basic tax information for verification and quick reference to title searches. The standard platform was designed to add speed and efficiency to searches and increase confidence levels in search results.

"The addition of Marin reinforces Data Trace?s position as the largest and most versatile provider of automated tax and title information for the Northern California region," said Michael T. Henney, president of Data Trace. "We are committed to expanding the Data Trace system nationwide and providing our customers with the best automated tax and title applications in the industry."

"Data Trace did an excellent job converting the plant and training users on the new system," said Al Pickrel, executive vice president of California Land Title of Marin. "By working closely with the member title companies, Data Trace was able to make the transition to the new system a very smooth and positive experience."

The joint plant is comprised of four member companies: First American Title Company of Marin, California Land Title of Marin, Fidelity National Title Company and Old Republic Title Company. The successful conversion of the Marin County title plant makes it the 39th title plant to be standardized on the Data Trace system since April 2000.

"Actually, this is the 33rd county conversion just in the past 17 months," said Jerry Sjodahl, regional vice president for Data Trace. "It?s a strong testament to our plant conversion expertise and efficiency."

Data Trace, a joint venture company owned by The First American Corporation (NYSE: FAF) and LandAmerica Financial Group (NYSE: LFG), provides technology that enables title insurance companies to connect regional title databases and access them using a standard software interface. The Data Trace system, the largest and most advanced of its kind, delivers title history information, property tax assessment and payment data, document images, and property profiles in major metropolitan areas across the United States. With coverage in 20 states, Data Trace?s title plant and tax database of nearly 1 billion records is the broadest and most comprehensive title information system available, and is used by every major title insurance underwriter in the U.S. For additional information, visit Data Trace's Web site at
