Monday, March 2, 2009: Welcome and Government Affairs Day
March 2, 2009
Good morning from a cold and snowy Washington, DC! This is the first of several daily briefings coming to you Live from ALTA's 2009 Federal Conference. The most influential meeting of the year, the Federal Conference is the catalyst for many important discussions between title industry professionals and government officials who create, execute, and enforce the legislative, regulatory, or political issues affecting the title industry.
The Conference has just begun but a lot has already been accomplished. This past weekend ALTA's Board of Governors held their first meeting of 2009. The ALTA Education Committee started the year strong. They met to discuss enhancements for all online courses and new products scheduled to launch in 2009.
Guests have been checking in throughout the morning and everyone is eager to get the Conference underway. RESPA reform is the hot topic in conversation circles this morning. The buzz is over how HUD should introduce recently passed RESPA legislation and how it will affect the title industry.
Today's meetings focus on Government Affairs and interaction among title industry professionals from all across the country. ALTA's Government Affairs team, Justin Ailes and Alyssa Marois, will host several sessions including meetings for TIPAC Trustees and State LTA leaders. Later in the afternoon, the Government Affairs Committee will meet to discuss their initiatives for 2009. These meetings set the stage for Wednesday's Capitol Hill Lobby Day.
Check back tomorrow morning for highlights from today's meetings and a preview of tomorrow's Federal Conference 2009 agenda.
