Take ALTA's Wire Fraud & Cyber Crime Survey

February 18, 2021

Have you experienced wire transfer fraud or are you concerned with cybersecurity? Please take ALTA's Wire Fraud & Cyber Crime Survey survey to share your experience. The goal of the survey is to learn more about wire fraud incidents in the industry. Your participation and results of the survey will help ALTA continue to raise awareness and encourage federal agencies to focus more on the threat of wire transfer fraud.

Survey results will help title and settlement agents benchmark experiences and practices. Title agents will learn more about what other title agents are doing to protect against monetary and reputational losses.

In 2018, an ALTA survey found that 95 percent of title companies have errors and omissions (E&O) insurance coverage. The same survey, however, found that only 58 percent of title companies nationwide have cyber liability insurance policies.

Here are some important survey notes:

  1. Individual information will not be collected for use in the survey. Only aggregated data will be provided for use.
  2. Before starting the survey, discuss the topic with the others in your organization so that you have an up-to-date and complete understanding of the types and frequency of cyberattacks affecting your company.
  3. The survey will take 10 minutes or less to complete.
  4. Most of the questions ask for estimates or ranges for losses. Don’t worry about exact figures.
  5. The survey is divided into four parts

The survey is divided into these parts:

  1. Section I asks questions about the profile of the respondent e.g. size, states of operation and types of transactions processed
  2. Sections II and III asks questions about specific instances of cybercrimes and the impact they have had on you and your customers
  3. Section IV & V ask about your efforts to train your staff, increase customer awareness and protect your business with insurance
