ALTA Board Member Receives Award for Supporting Diversity, Helping Youth

April 30, 2013

Peter Birnbaum, president and CEO of Attorneys’ Title Guaranty Fund Inc., was recently named the Chicago Bar Association (CBA) recipient of the coveted Vanguard Award for supporting diversity in the profession and for his dedication and service to helping area youth.

Birnbaum, who is a member of ALTA’s board of governors and serves on the Title Insurance Underwriters Section Executive Committee, was honored along with others during a luncheon at The Standard Club in Chicago. The CBA co-hosts the Vanguard Awards Luncheon with several other bar associations including the Asian American Bar Association of Chicago, Cook County Bar Association, Hispanic Lawyers Association of Illinois, Lesbian and Gay Bar Association of Chicago and the Puerto Rican Bar Association. Each association selects a nominee.

“The CBA is proud to co-host this event and recognize these outstanding individuals,” said Aurora Austriaco, president of the CBA, as well as a member of ATG and its board of directors. “This year’s luncheon honored lawyers, judges and institutions that have made the law and the legal profession more accessible to and reflective of the community we serve. Peter is a shining example of that.”

Birnbaum has worked with underserved youth since he was a teen. For nearly 30 years, he has been actively involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metropolitan Chicago, as a volunteer, committee chair, board member and board president. He and his wife, Juliet, have been a Big Brother and Big Sister for the past 16 years. He is also on the board of directors of the Jesse White Foundation.
