Join ALTA for a Free Webinar on Escrow Standards

January 17, 2012

In an effort to provide members alternative methods of receiving information, ALTA will start offering a free, monthly 30-minute webinar/conference call presentation titled Title Topics.

The presentation will address various topics, including current issues impacting the industry, educational material and business operation advice.

The first Title Topic webinar will be held at 11 a.m. ET, Jan. 19. Participating on the webinar will be Dick Reass, president of Reliant Title, who will discuss the need for escrow standards.

The title industry has come under increased scrutiny due to agent defalcations and escrow theft. Underwriters have absorbed staggering losses because of the actions of their agents. Settlement agents have been rendered insolvent because of employee embezzlements. Regulators are enacting legislation to more closely scrutinize the industry and underwriters are considering massive changes in escrow accounting standards.

Reass will provide information on current escrow standards, why the landscape is changing and what title agents can do to protect their businesses and the industry.

To participate on next week's call, you will need to log in by clicking here. The call-in number is 866-906-7277. The access code is 7919162.
