Efforts to Recover Lost Data in New Orleans Continues

The Orleans Parish in New Orleans has 58 people helping to recovery mortgage and conveyance records that were lost due to a computer crash, according to Clerk of Court Dale N. Atkins.

Employees from the Jefferson Parish Clerk of Court’s office and the Orleans Sheriff's office are working in the Orleans Parish office to help recover files.. Additionally, Atkin’s office has made four new hires, and 44 existing employees within his office’s civil, mortgage and conveyance divisions have been assigned to help with the recovery project. In total, 58 people have been assigned to assist with the project.

Atkins said the newly hired staff will work various daily shifts between 7 a.m. and midnight, depending on their availability. Within the existing mortgage and conveyance divisions of Atkin’s office, 25 new workstations have been created to accommodate new staff and hours. The recovery project team will focus on data entry, verification, indexing and cashiering of the backlog of mortgage and conveyance data.

Atkins said his is negotiating with private vendors to secure a contract to address the gap in mortgage data from August 6, 2009 to October 25, 2010. The Windward Group has started work on the conveyance data entry.
