Title Industry Veteran in Kansas Leaves Footprint

April 1, 2010

John Bell, a long-time title insurance industry veteran in Kansas, passed away March 25 at the age of 79.

He was a prolific volunteer and community leader in the Wichita area. Bell was a former owner of Security Abstract and Title Co. He also served as president of the Kansas Land Title Association. Bell’s brother, Roger Bell, served as president for the American Land Title Association in 1979.

In 1994, he was given the Wichita Metro Chamber of Commerce's Uncommon Citizen award for his community involvement. He served as the chamber's chairman in 1972 and 1973, the only person in the chamber's history to serve two terms. Bell also created the Wichita River Festival and the Kansas Food Bank

A 1989 editorial in the Wichita Eagle, said Bell "understands, perhaps better than any other major community leader, the importance of arts in the life of a city."
