Latest Update on the FTC's Do Not Call Registry

September 26, 2003

On Friday, September 26, the FTC announced that the National Do Not Call Registry (DNC) will not go into effect on October 1, 2003 as previously scheduled. On Thursday, a U.S. District Judge in Denver ruled on First Amendment grounds that the registry was unconstitutional. The FTC announced that they are appealing and will seek a stay on the decision. This comes on the heels of the House passing a bill on Thursday that would permit the FTC to go forward with enforcing the registry. For now, title companies and agencies will not be required to check names and numbers against the DNC registry.
