Don't Buy Your New Home Without This

If you're winding down on a home purchase, it's easy to think of title insurance as just another line item in an otherwise costly and paper-heavy process. However, it's a small price to pay when you consider what's at stake: Title defects, including phony deeds or surprise heirs to the home, could throw into question your claim to the property and lead to costly legal fees if you wind up going to court. ALTA member George Holler, principal of Holler Law Firm, told CNBC that there are variations in how the industry operates across the country, even within a given state.

Title Company Helps Florida Couple Keep Home

Kris and Rebecca Kraft faced losing their home of three years, even though they never missed a mortgage payment and never even did business with the bank trying to take the house. Now, the couple’s title insurance company, Old Republic, is stepping in to help. The insurance policy will cover a title mix-up that was missed when the Krafts bought their home.
