General Session Summary and Lobby Day

Federal Conference Logo The main program of ALTA's 2009 Federal Conference went off without a hitch and feedback from attendees could not have been more positive. All four general sessions featured key regulators or government officials who responded to concerns about the housing industry, including implementing new RESPA legislation and President Obama's Housing Plan.

At the closing general session, ALTA had the privilege of hosting Michael Barr, Special Assistant to the President at the National Economic Council, during the White House Briefing. He provided an overview of the Obama Administration's major housing and financial services initiatives. He also responded to ALTA members concerns about fairness to taxpayers, preservation of small businesses, and restoring liquidity to commercial credit markets.

He concluded by advising ALTA and its members to continue their dialog with legislators and regulators on issues of concern to the title industry. Appropriately enough, today ALTA members will visit Capitol Hill for Federal Conference's Lobby Day. After a morning briefing, attendees will travel to over 130 meetings to educate important government leaders about the importance of the title industry.
