Financial Services Committee to Hold Hearing on Legislation to Reform Regulation of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae

House Financial Services Committee Chairman Michael G. Oxley (OH) announced today that the Committee will hold a hearing next week on a bill introduced by Capital Markets Subcommittee Chairman Richard H. Baker (LA) to strengthen regulation of housing government sponsored enterprises Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

Witnesses will discuss H.R. 2575, the Secondary Mortgage Market Enterprises Regulatory Improvement Act [pdf] and legislative proposals made to the Committee yesterday by Treasury Secretary John Snow and Housing and Urban Development Secretary Mel Martinez.

The full Committee hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Sept. 18 in room 2128 of the Rayburn Building. Witnesses will be named at a later date.
