James R. Maher to Retire as EVP of ALTA®

ALTA today announced that James R. Maher, will retire as executive vice president of the association effective October 15, 2007.
"Jim as been a tremendous asset to the association for more than 20 years," said ALTA President Greg Kosin. "His breadth of knowledge and extensive background in the land title industry has made him an invaluable resource for our members as well as legislators, regulators and the news media. We are very pleased that he has agreed to serve as a consultant to the association so that we can continue to tap his vast knowledge and expertise."
"I have been fortunate during my time at ALTA to work with so many dedicated, talented professionals in the title industry," said Maher. "It has been my privilege to serve as executive vice president and I look forward to serving in a consulting capacity."
Maher joined ALTA in 1984 as general counsel, and was promoted to the top staff position in October 1988. He has been responsible for carrying out the association’s legislative, legal, educational, public relations and research activities.
Previously, Maher was with the Department of Housing and Urban Development, where he served as attorney-advisor in the Home Mortgage Division and later became trial attorney in the Inspector General and Administrative Procedures Division. He received his undergraduate and law degrees from The American University in Washington, D.C., and is a member of the American and District of Columbia bar associations.
ALTA will have a special celebration for Maher during its 100th Anniversary Annual Convention, October 10-13 in Chicago.
