Stewart Title Guaranty Co. Promotes Gosdin to Chief Underwriting Counsel

HOUSTON--James L. "Jim" Gosdin has been named chief underwriting counsel for Stewart Title Guaranty Co.

A Stewart associate for almost 30 years, Gosdin is a senior vice president and has served as senior underwriting counsel and chief reinsurance counsel. Jim Kletke, former chief underwriting counsel, has relocated to serve as senior vice president, senior underwriting counsel and region H counsel.

Gosdin is a member of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers (ACREL) and the American College of Mortgage Attorneys (ACMA), two of the nation's most prestigious honorary organizations for practicing real estate lawyers.

Gosdin's long and distinguished list of accomplishments includes being named the 1998-1999 Title Person of the Year by the Texas Land Title Association. He is the author of the seminal American Bar Association publication, "Title Insurance, A Comprehensive Overview," revised in 2000 and published as the second edition, with the third edition available in 2007. Gosdin has been listed as a "Texas Super Lawyer for Real Estate Transactions" and is AV-rated by Martindale-Hubbell's peer review ratings.

He is a member of the American Land Title Association (ALTA) Forms Committee, the ALTA Liaison Committee with the National Association of Insurance Commissioners and the ALTA Reinsurance Committee, as well as the Bylaws Committee and the State Legislative and Regulatory Action Committee.

Gosdin is board certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in farm and ranch, commercial and residential real estate. He received his bachelor's degree with high honors from The University of Texas and his juris doctorate with honors from The University of Texas School of Law. Gosdin was elected a member of Phi Beta Kappa and the Order of the Coif.
