ALTA's Press Release In Response to the U.S. Senate’s 57-41 Vote to Confirm Mel Watt as the Director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency

Washington, D.C., December 10, 2013 — The American Land Title Association (ALTA) released the following statement today from CEO Michelle Korsmo in response to the U.S. Senate’s 57-41 vote to confirm Mel Watt as the director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA).

“We look forward to continuing to work with the Federal Housing Finance Agency under the leadership of Director Mel Watt,” said Michelle Korsmo, chief executive officer of the American Land Title Association (ALTA). “As a Member of Congress, Mr. Watt was focused on ensuring that our housing finance system provided homebuyers access to credit in adverse market conditions, defended the American taxpayers, and protected legal title rights for consumers and investors. Ed DeMarco led the Agency through an unprecedented housing crisis recovery with an unprecedented mandate, and we are grateful for his public service.”
