ALTA Member Set to Defend British Seniors Open Amateur Title

August 6, 2013

ALTA member Chip Lutz will look to win his third-consecutive British Seniors Open Amateur title when play begins Wednesday (Aug. 7) at Royal Aberdeen.

Last year, the president of Sentry Abstract Company in Pennsylvania became only the third player to win consecutive championships at the Seniors Open Amateur. He joins Charlie Green and Ron White as the only back-to-back winners.

"It feels unreal to have won again,” Lutz said last year after winning the tournament. “It is a significant achievement as it has not been done for about 20 years and then by Charlie Green who I believe was something special. He won six times in seven years and I certainly have some way to go to catch him up. I am really looking forward to Royal Birkdale.”

During last year’s Seniors Open Amateur, Lutz overcame a one-stroke deficit to claim to a four-stroke victory at Machynys Peninsula in South Wales. Click here for more about last year’s tournament.

On July 28, Lutz recorded the lowest amateur score during the 2013 Senior British Open. He shot a final round 5-over par 75 to finish tied for 48th place to take low amateur honors at Royal Birkdale.
