Leica Geosystems Introduces New DISTO Handheld Laser Distance Measuring Tool

September 9, 2004

Leica Geosystems has introduced DISTO Classic5 - a high-precision laser measuring tool with a totally new ergonomic design, extended measuring range, additional measuring functions, a built-in telescopic viewer and numerous other new features.

The DISTO Classic5a measures distances from 0.7 inches to 650 feet with 1/16-inch accuracy. With the DISTO Classic5a, one person can take hundreds of distance measurements in minutes without a steel tape. The DISTO unit automatically calculates areas and volumes, and permits remote measuring of surfaces using the Pythagorean (triangulation) function.

The new ergonomic design incorporates a user-friendly raised keypad with raised buttons. The unit has a built-in bubble level and integrated 2x telescopic viewer to help spot the laser dot at extended distances without special targets.

The DISTO Classic5a can make over 10,000 measurements on a single set of AA batteries.

“Users can now increase their productivity by saving time while they are on the jobsite with this new fifth-generation DISTO laser measuring instrument,” said Matthew Miles, DISTO marketing manager for Leica Geosystems. “DISTO measuring tools have become indispensable tools for a wide variety of users, such as architects, builders, flooring and carpet layers, plumbers, air conditioning contractors, painters, real estate agents, insurance adjusters and law enforcement agencies.”

DISTO products are sold through a network of authorized distributors and dealers throughout North America. Buyers can also select, specify and purchase products directly online at www.disto.com.
