The American Bar Association (ABA) Section of Real Property, Trust & Real Estate Law recently appointed Jim Gosdin and Bruce Hawley of Stewart Title Guaranty Co. (STG) to leadership chair positions for the 2010-2011 bar year.
Gosdin, senior vice president, chief underwriting counsel and chief reinsurance counsel for STG, was appointed as chair of the Title Insurance and Surveys Committee of the Commercial Real Estate Transactions Group. Hawley, senior vice president, senior underwriting counsel and multinational title services group manager for STG, has been selected as chair of the Multi-Family Residential Committee of the Residential Multi-Family and Special Use Group. Previously, Gosdin and Hawley served as vice chairs for their respective committees for the 2009-2010 bar year.
In their positions as committee chairs, Gosdin and Hawley will focus on specific areas of law and work together with committee members to develop committee activities, produce CLE programming, and contribute eCLE articles to ABA publications such as Probate & Property and Trust and Estate Law Journal, among other responsibilities as leaders.
“We are honored that Jim and Bruce have been recognized for the second year by the American Bar Association’s Section of Real Property, Trust & Estate Law,” said Mike Skalka, president of STG. “Their contributions in their specialty areas as well in continuing education and industry leadership have proven to be invaluable to Stewart, and we are pleased to have two of our executives yet again receive accolades from the ABA.” Gosdin handles underwriting decisions for title insurance transactions throughout the United States, reinsurance transactions and international title insurance transactions for STG. In addition to writing the American Bar Association publication, Title Insurance: A Comprehensive Overview, Third Edition, for title insurance education, Gosdin works closely with HUD and the Mortgage Bankers Association as an integral part of the American Land Title Association (ALTA) RESPA Implementation Task Force.
An accomplished veteran of more than 30 years in the real estate industry, Hawley joined Stewart in 2000. In addition to managing Stewart Title Guaranty’s Multinational Title Services Group and providing national underwriting services, Hawley is responsible for developing business with multinational law firms and companies throughout the United States and several foreign countries.
