"Live" from Federal Conference - Tuesday, March 3 2009

March 3, 2009

Despite being hit with the largest snowfall in DC this winter, Federal Conference got off to a strong start. Travel conditions were unfavorable, but final tallies show that over 120 attendees made the important decision to attend the meeting.

Attendees stayed warm yesterday during healthy and active government affairs discussions. Amy Kaspar said, "the meetings were thought provoking" and that "many important questions were asked and answered." Government Affairs Director Alyssa Marois was "excited to hear concerns members have about implementing the new RESPA rule."

TIPAC Trustees discussed their strategy for reaching their fundraising goal of $250,000 for 2009 and the Government affairs Committee met to discuss new federal legislature and state level issue updates.

Today's schedule includes a number of General Sessions and presentations by industry and government leaders. Former Oklahoma Governor Frank Keating participated in an early morning meeting with the underwriters section. The meeting will be followed with two General Sessions - The New World of Financial Services Panel and the NAIC Title Insurance Working Group Panel.

After the TIPAC luncheon, hosted by noted political strategist Scott Reed, representatives from HUD take the stage for the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act Panel and we will close with a briefing by Special Assistant to the President, Michael Barr, key author of the President's Housing Plan released last week. The session will be followed by a Grand Reception on Capitol Hill with Members of Congress.
