LandAmerica Acquires Horizon Certification Services, Ltd.

September 21, 2004

Richmond, Virginia – LandAmerica Financial Group, Inc. (NYSE: LFG), a leading provider of real estate transaction services, through its subsidiary LandAmerica Tax and Flood Services, Inc., has purchased certain assets of Horizon Certification Services, Ltd. (Horizon), headquartered in San Antonio, Texas.

Horizon furnishes flood certifications, including both basic certifications and those for the life of a loan.

The purchased assets include Horizon's customer list of lenders, mortgage brokers, and credit unions, as well as a portfolio of outstanding flood certifications.

"Over the years, Horizon has built up an extensive list of loyal customers,” says Dave Imig, who will assume the role of President of LandAmerica Tax and Flood Services effective October 1, 2004. “This gives us the opportunity to provide these customers with a broader range of services, backed by the financial strength of a Fortune 500 company.”
