With regulators increasingly assigning liability for escrow theft, and putting regulations together that focus on solvency of agents and underwriters, it is important that this industry provide solutions, or they will be provided to us. Industry experts will discuss findings of a national survey examining the latest trends in mortgage fraud and escrow theft, what best practices companies follow to thwart fraud and what solutions the industry believes are the most viable to implement. Whether it’s through CPLs, surety and fidelity bond coverage, standardized agent audits or removing escrow duties to a third party, it’s important the industry find solutions and adopt a zero-tolerance for fraud. Be a part of the discussion and get the latest on what the industry is doing to combat mortgage fraud.
Closing Luncheon: The Story Behind the Spirit
Michael R. Veach special collection assistant Filson Historical Society
For more than 200 years, Kentucky’s legendary distilleries have crafted the world’s finest bourbons, using secret recipes and a time-honored process passed down from generation to generation. Join us for the closing luncheon, as bourbon historian Mike Veach shares the folklore, rich history and tradition of bourbon and the land disputes it sometimes created. The only person outside the bourbon-making industry to be named to the Kentucky Bourbon Hall of Fame, Veach became an expert in his field spending almost two decades sifting through the personal papers of bourbon’s royal families and studying the distilling industry and culture of the time to clear up mysteries on the origination of bourbon. On top of being a historian, Veach is noted to be a keen judge of whiskey, favoring bourbons with rich caramel and vanilla flavors. Spirits will be flowing as Veach takes you through the history of how bourbon — which is essentially corn whiskey aged in charred oak barrels — originated.
