You Can Still be part of ALTA's
Business Strategies Conference
If you can't make it for the entire 2011 Business Strategies Conference, being held May 8-10 in Las Vegas, one-day passes are available. Just select the day that best suits your needs.
The conference kicks off Sunday night, May 8, with an Exhibit Showcase Opening Reception before a full slate of sessions on Monday and Tuesday. Despite the market, this year's Business Strategies Conference is expected to be one of the largest over the past few years. The Exhibit Hall will be bustling with activity as all of the vendor booths have been sold.
Here are some highlights of the general sessions and agenda:
Day 1: Economic Forecast for 2011
- Participate in the Title Bowl Challenge:
Join the ALTA Education Committee for the Title Bowl Challenge during the conference. Those who stop by at 8 a.m. on May 9 will be able to participate in teams and questions will cover topics including title, escrow, insurance, ethics and industry regulation. Contestants will answer the questions and a panel of judges will expand on the answers so everyone has fun while they learn. Champions will receive a free ALTA/LTI training product (DVD, board game or online course). Parting gifts will be awarded to all participants.
Don't miss the opening general session as Mark Fleming, CoreLogic's chief economist, explores the outlook for the remainder of 2011. Has confidence returned to the market? Or will more bad news - looming shadow inventory, high unemployment, continued decline in home values, the potential elimination of Fannie and Freddie - spoil everything?
- Plus, attendees can select from 12 different professional development sessions! Check for CE/CLE credit availability.
Day 2: The Title Industry in the Media, Weeding Out Bad Loans and Battling through Adversity
Ever wonder why the title insurance industry gets painted in a negative way in the media? Ken Harney, syndicated columnist for the Washington Post, will provide a reporter's view on title insurance, why the industry struggles to get good PR, and what the industry can do to change the negative perception and share the protection it provides to homeowners.
As past chairman of The Mortgage Bankers Association, David Kittle testified many times in front of Congress about different facets of the mortgage crisis. He now helps IMARC review loan files, analyzing them for any form of misrepresentation or falsification, with the goal of finding out why loans went bad. David will offer insight on the state of the lending industry, how mortgage fraud has evolved over the years and what the industry is doing to make better loans.
- Four more professional development sessions will be offered.
The closing luncheon will feature Baseball Hall of Famer Ferguson Jenkins Jr., who overcame numerous personal struggles. Jenkins believes life is much like the game of baseball: either you win or you lose. How you get through difficult times, depends on the strength of your faith. You will want to hear this inspirational presentation as Jenkins offers his thoughts on life's lessons and how to learn from adversity.
