Bloomfield Hills, Mich.-based Pulte Homes (NYSE: PHM) announced that Mark J. O'Brien officially took over yesterday as president and CEO of the company. O'Brien succeeds Robert K. Burgess, whose previously announced retirement was effective Dec. 31. Company founder William J. Pulte at the same time reassumed the position of chairman of the board.

"Pulte Homes enters 2002 with tremendous momentum and with opportunities to build on the results of 2001," O'Brien said.

O'Brien has held a number of positions during his 18-year tenure with Pulte Homes. He was named president in 1998 and has been COO since 1987 with day-to-day responsibility for the company's domestic, active adult, international and mortgage operations. He also was instrumental in the company's acquisition in July of active senior housing developer Del Webb Corp.

Pulte builds homes priced from less than $100,000 to more than $1 million and has operations in 44 markets across the United States, Argentina, Puerto Rico and Mexico.
